As former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is again weighing a run for Congress, this time in Tennessee’s newly redrawn 6th Congressional District, podcaster and Trump impressionist Shawn Farash said Barry’s infamous romantic scandal with her security guard that led to her resignation in 2018 remains one of the “funniest stories” he has ever heard.
Barry, a Democrat, resigned as Nashville Mayor in 2018 after it was revealed she financed an affair with her bodyguard, MNPD Sgt. Rob Forrest, using nearly $175,000 in taxpayer money and utilizing taxpayer resources and vehicles to facilitate meetings at the Nashville City Cemetery.
She later pleaded guilty in Davidson County to felony theft of property over $10,000 as part of a plea agreement requiring her resignation and $11,000 in restitution. Her criminal record was fully expunged in 2021, with Metro Nashville’s Office of the Criminal Clerk confirming there was no remaining record of the case in its system.
In 2024, Barry formally reentered the political scene in her failed bid to unseat then-incumbent Congressman Mark Green in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, losing the general election by 21.5 percentage points.
Now, according to the latest candidate filings on the Tennessee Secretary of State’s website, Barry is reportedly considering a run in the newly-drawn 6th Congressional District, currently represented by U.S. Representative John Rose (R-TN-06), who is pursuing a campaign for governor.
Reacting during Wednesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, Farash repeatedly mocked the cemetery scandal after hearing archived reporting detailing surveillance footage of Barry’s city-issued white SUV parked at the cemetery during early morning meetings with her bodyguard.
“When the truck is a-rockin’, don’t come a-knockin’, huh?” Farash joked, before adding, “Oh, that’s the most life that cemetery has seen in years.”
“That’s bad. That’s an embarrassing story,” he said.
Farash also questioned why Barry’s husband stayed with her following the affair, saying, “Why would you stay married to this woman after she cheated on you in a cemetery? What the hell is wrong with these people?”
Hearing that Barry’s former bodyguard reportedly divorced following the scandal, Farash remarked, “At least his wife is smarter than [Barry’s] husband.”
Mocking the idea of Barry mounting a political comeback, Farash joked her campaign slogan could be “Back from the dead,” with host Leahy adding, “Bringing life to the sixth district, right?”
